Dark Peak Camper Vans is a small, family owned and run business located in Bamford in the heart of the Peak District National Park. The business was born out of a temporary (and rather unintended!) career break during the Covid pandemic as well as a love for VW camper vans (and also a rather niche love for birch plywood and CNC machining!).
As with a lot of things in life, it took a little longer to get things going (with a few hiccups along the way) as well as a return to “proper” work again as Covid started to become history. Our first van, Mario, was ready in 2024 and our second van is hopefully going to be ready soon (pending arrival of the 36 hour day and 8 day week….).
The conversion of our vans is all done in house with the exception of the roof (thank you Vamoose!) and the rather lovely paintwork (thank you Hope Valley Motor Bodies). Top of the range fittings (Rib bed, Dometic fridge and sink, Wallas diesel heater and hob) all complemented with birch ply and formica furniture that’s been designed and manufactured in house (did we mention the CNC machine?).
We take safety very seriously in our vans and from the outset have made sure that everything exceeds the required standards; proper crash tested seating, diesel hob (no gas or naked flames within the van), smoke and CO detectors, ISOfix seating in the rear. No corners have been cut – we take our family out in our vans and there is no more precious cargo than that.
